How to Get More Google Reviews for a Local Business

4 min read

Most happy customers never leave a review because nobody asked at the right moment. How to ask, make it easy and stay within Google's rules.

Why reviews matter

When someone searches for a café, salon or car wash nearby, Google shows businesses with their star rating and number of reviews. Reviews affect both where you appear and whether people choose you.

Recent reviews matter too: a business with a steady flow of new reviews looks active and trustworthy.

Ask at the right moment

The best time to ask is right after a good experience: when a client admires their new haircut, when a regular says the coffee was great, or when a customer picks up a clean car.

Keep it short and personal: "It would really help us if you left a review on Google." Most people are happy to help a small business they like; they just don't think of it on their own.

Make it one tap

Every extra step loses people. In your Google Business Profile, choose Ask for reviews and copy the link. It opens the review form directly, so customers don't have to search for you first.

Put that link where customers already are: on a card at the counter, in your email signature and in your loyalty app. In Beewa, add it under Grow your audience and turn on the Support us card, so customers can open it from your page.

What Google doesn't allow

Google's policies prohibit offering anything in exchange for a review, such as discounts, free products or loyalty stamps. They also prohibit asking only your happy customers for reviews, and writing reviews for your own business.

Breaking these rules can get reviews removed or your profile restricted. Ask everyone, reward nobody for reviewing, and let the reviews be honest.

Reply to reviews

Replying shows future customers that you care. Thank people for positive reviews, and answer negative ones calmly and briefly, with an offer to put things right.

A thoughtful reply to a critical review often reassures readers more than another five-star review would.

Summary

  • Ask right after a good experience, in one sentence
  • Use the direct review link from your Google Business Profile
  • Put the link at the counter and in your loyalty app
  • Never offer rewards for reviews or ask only happy customers
  • Reply to reviews, good and bad
